Our Name Has Changed!

Partners David H. Payne, AIA, LEED AP, and Mark E. Lee, AIA, LEED AP, are pleased to announce that the eight year old firm of Payne and Associates Architects has changed its name to Payne Lee and Associates Architects.  Their medium sized, diverse firm will continue its focus on educational, religious, and governmental architecture as well as continue to offer its clients the well established product that the firm is known for: innovative, creative, functional designs, well illustrated by clear, thorough, carefully detailed and coordinated documents ultimately becoming easily constructed, high quality buildings, being equal parts design ingenuity and sturdy practicality. The firm’s one office, where Mr. Payne and Mr. Lee produce all of the firm’s designs, is located in Montgomery and has served clients across Alabama as well as in Georgia and Florida.

Church Architecture

  • First Baptist Church, Montgomery, Alabama
    • A $10.8 Million, four-story, 44,000 SF new Preschool and Children's Education Building, Renovations to a four-story Education Building and a new four-story Lobby connecting the two areas, as well as new parking for 225 cars. This project is being constructed by Bear Brothers Construction Company of Montgomery, Alabama, and is scheduled for completion before Thanksgiving.
  • Eastern Hills Baptist Church, Montgomery, Alabama
    • A $2.5 Million, two-story Addition which includes a new Choir Rehearsal Suite, Adult Education Classroom Additions, Office Suite Expansion, and mechanical/electrical system upgrades. This project is being constructed by Bailey-Harris Construction Company of Auburn, Alabama, and is scheduled for completion in late October 2010.
  • Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Birmingham, Alabama
    • A $24.5 Million, three building addition which includes an Adult Education Building with a 225 seat Auditorium, a Children's Auditorium Building, a Youth Education Building, a Parking Deck, and a Pedestrian Bridge. This project is in the Construction Documents phase and is currently on hold.

School Architecture

  • Irondale Community School- Birmingham, Al
    • A $6.9 Million, 45,000 SF Addition of Classroom, Gymnasium, and Lab space to the existing facility. This project is being constructed by Blalock Building Company with completion expected by late November 2010.
  • Trenholm State Technical College - Montgomery, Al.
    • We have completed three phase, 15 year Master Plans for multi-building expansions to the Patterson Campus in South Montgomery and to the Trenholm campus in West Montgomery. The $8.2 Million, 2010 first phase will include a $5.2 Million, 42,000 SF new Classroom, Administrative, and Laboratory facility to replace 30,000 SF of antiquated existing facilities, a $1.8 Million upgrade of campus vehicular and pedestrian paving, and a $1.2 Million ADA upgrade and interior renovations to several other campus buildings.
  • Opelika High School - Opelika, Al
    • A $20 Million, 142,000 SF, new Classroom, Cafeteria/Kitchen, Career Technology, Administration "infill" project at the existing high school site. The project will involve the removal of 110,000 SF of existing building and will be built in two phases. Construction Documents are nearing completion.

Government Architecture

  • Montgomery Municipal Courthouse - Montgomery, Al
    • A $4.075 project that includes the complete interior renovation of a 29,000 SF existing warehouse building into a new court building that will include two new Courtrooms, one future Courtroom, as well as Judges' Chambers, Holding Cells, Magistrate Areas, and Clerks/Cashiers/Administrative areas. The project will also include a new roof and the partial renovation of the exterior fascade so as to create the appropriate character associated with a city government building. Plans for this project will be complete by the end of the year.
